Occivar is one of seven funded ventures in the current cohort - alongside Yakama, Atlas, Focus Bear, Packaroo, Circlar and My Good Will - sharing a combined $120,000 announced for the round.
About RMIT Activator and LaunchHUB
RMIT Activator is the entrepreneurship arm of RMIT University - one of the largest universities in Australia and a long-standing hub for applied research in technology, sustainability and design. Activator runs the founder pipeline that takes RMIT research, RMIT alumni and RMIT-affiliated founders from idea to viable venture.
LaunchHUB is Activator's flagship pre-accelerator. The programme is 12 weeks of structured cohort discipline, equity-free funding of up to $20,000 per startup, and access to RMIT's technology, researchers and labs. It is targeted explicitly at mission-driven founders whose ventures align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - founders building structural impact, not marketing impact.
Why Occivar is in the cohort
Occivar was selected as one of seven funded ventures because the impact thesis is structural to the product. The platform's energy thesis maps directly to UN SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy), the privacy architecture maps to SDG 16 (responsible institutions), and the right-sizing use cases in libraries, civic spaces and aged care map to SDGs 11 and 3. Selection was not about technology novelty - it was about whether the impact is measurable, the founder can ship, and the venture can carry RMIT's name into the market.
Operating alongside the other cohort founders - working in waste reduction, mental health, sustainable packaging, biodiversity and social enterprise - means Occivar is now embedded in a network of impact-focused operators at exactly the moment the product is converting from R&D to commercial.
How the programme pushes the MVP toward commercial pilot testing
The LaunchHUB funding does the unglamorous work of buying engineering time. Equity-free pre-accelerator capital is what pays for a solo founder to stop doing the founder's other work and ship the product full-time. For Occivar that means closing the gap between the working architecture and a deployable, calibrated, support-ready platform.
Beyond capital, RMIT Activator provides the technical depth that pure capital can't buy: access to RMIT's labs, computer-vision researchers, and the campus itself as a candidate environment for pilot deployment. The university's campuses are exactly the kind of complex, multi-zone space the platform is built for, and proximity to that environment compresses the calibration cycle by months.
And the cohort cadence - weekly check-ins, milestone reviews, mentor sessions - is the operating discipline that turns a prototype into a product you can sign a pilot contract against. That cadence is the part early-stage founders most often skip, and the part pre-accelerators do best.
