A sustainability report an ESG lead trusts at 4pm on a Friday is the one that already speaks the assurance auditor's language, already shows the baseline, and already cites the underlying counts. A report that requires explanation in the email body is one that is going to be rewritten.

01 · WHAT AN AUDIT-GRADE OCCUPANCY REPORT CONTAINSWhat an audit-grade occupancy report contains
The reports layer produces three families of report by default, each with the same skeleton:
- Operations weekly. Per-zone occupancy curves, dwell distributions, threshold-crossing log. The report a facilities manager opens on Monday morning.
- Sustainability quarterly. kWh and tonnes-CO₂e avoided versus the prior-year baseline, degree-day-hour normalised. Methodology unchanged across quarters; the auditor reads the same template every time.
- Compliance event. Generated automatically after any event or window the safety planner has tagged, a festival, a final whistle, a fire-drill. Threshold crossings with timestamps, durations, egress estimates and an attendant-acknowledgement log.

02 · WHY METHODOLOGY STABILITY MATTERS MORE THAN METHODOLOGY CLEVERNESSWhy methodology stability matters more than methodology cleverness
The most common reason a sustainability claim fails review is that the methodology changed between baseline and report. A clever new normalisation that improves the headline number reads, to an assurance auditor, exactly like an adjustment to fit the answer. The reports layer freezes methodology versions explicitly: every report cites the version it was produced under, and a methodology upgrade is a separate, dated event in the audit trail.
This is boring on purpose. Boring methodology survives review.
03 · WHAT IS IN THE REPORT, AND WHAT ISN'TWhat is in the report, and what isn't
A report contains:
- Anonymous per-zone counts and density.
- Calibrated capacity per zone and density thresholds.
- Energy load before and after right-sizing, against the appropriate normalised baseline.
- Threshold-crossing logs with timestamps, durations, and acknowledgements.
- Methodology version, platform version, generated-at timestamp.
A report does not contain:
- Faces or video.
- Demographic inference.
- Anything that could be back-tracked to an individual.
This is structural. The architecture means the data simply does not exist to be summarised at the report layer.
04 · HOW THE REPORTS LAYER FITS THE RESTHow the reports layer fits the rest
The reports layer consumes the same counts that occupancy analytics and alerts read from, and exports through integrations: PDF for the submission pack, CSV for analyst download, direct push into Snowflake or BigQuery for the wider data lake.
